Why Alexandrites Change Color?

The color-changing property of alexandrites (Colour-chance Chrysoberyl), known as the alexandrite effect, occurs because of how the gemstone absorbs and reflects light. The stone typically exhibits a vibrant green hue under daylight or lighting conditions with a color temperature of around 5000K. However, when viewed under warmer light sources like an incandescent light, around 2500K, it shifts to shades of brown, red or purplish-red.

Why Do Alexandrites Look Different in Photos Compared to Real Life ?

In real-world scenarios, lighting is rarely constant or from a single source. Most environments combine various types of light—natural daylight, LED, fluorescent, or incandescent—leading to a blend of the gemstone's colors. This dynamic interplay of light makes alexandrites appear different throughout the day and in various settings.

Are your Alexandrites sourced ethically?

Yes, our Alexandrites are ethically sourced from Sri Lanka - Brazil and Tanzania, ensuring that each gem meets strict ethical and environmental standards. We are committed to responsible sourcing practices that respect the communities involved in their extraction.
